the last time i wrote a blog post was… almost a year ago?! damn, time really flies. i don’t even remember half of what happened since then. like, a lot but also nothing at the same time. but guess what? i’m back! gotta stay consistent…
even though no one really reads these. but i do! so whatever, right? why do i always come back here every ramadan though? and it’s always right before raya too. i guess this is the only time of the year when i actually have time on my hands. anyways, let’s rewind and catch up on life. so, i turned 23 this year! man, i feel old now. the twenties shenanigans are hitting me, but softly. like, i had a fever two days before my birthday, and on top of that, my wisdom teeth decided to show up and cause me pain for three months straight! but i survived. luckily, they grew in the right position, so i didn’t have to get them removed. if i did, i swear i would’ve been out here smacking people left and right from the pain lol.
moving on. i finished my fifth semester at upsi (trauma unlocked, we don’t talk about that). but on the bright side, i started my break earlier than everyone else because i had no finals. yay! instead of going back to tawau, i stayed at my aunty’s place in dengkil because my family came to kl for the holidays! well, mostly for my cousin’s wedding (on my mom’s side), but hey, two birds, one stone!
we had a solid 10-day holiday together! first stop: melaka. did the touristy stuff. visited historical landmarks, checked out museums, and ate asam pedas. also had some ridiculously overpriced seafood that was not worth it because i got food poisoning after. but being the strong, independent woman that i am, i recovered overnight.
next day, we hit up the national zoo. three hours of nonstop walking, looking at wildlife. then, driving straight to genting highlands for a little escape. of course, first order of business was food, but my stomach was still recovering, so i just had marrybrown’s chicken porridge. my siblings went on some rides, but i sat it out because ✨ expensive ✨ older sibling sacrifices, am i right?
then we chilled the next day before heading out for dinner in shah alam to celebrate my uncle’s birthday. after that, we hit up the national museum to experience some culture and went on a raya shopping hunt at jakel in jalan tar. i was basically a little duckling following my mom and aunty around, but i did convince them to get new bags at panda eyes (of course, i got one too). that night, we had dinner at kaw’d in cheras. food was amazing, price was... something else. but it was my cousin’s treat so i enjoyed it to the fullest.
then came the most unexpected part. my boyfriend met my family for the first time! we all went to petrosains at suria klcc, and i thought he’d just hang out for a bit, but my aunty randomly invited him to dinner at her place. sooo, he ended up meeting my extended fam too. total surprise, but he vibed well with my dad and uncles, so he passed the vibe check. next morning, we flew back to tawau. i barely got three hours of sleep before the flight, then knocked out for another two hours in the air.
after that, life was a little less eventful but still had its moments. my dad bought me a second pair of glasses! wasn’t planning on getting one, but i was getting tired of wearing contacts every day, so i wanted a cute pair. found one i liked, was ready to pay with my own money, but my dad swooped in and covered it. an impromptu but necessary purchase, i swear.
my aunty (who works in madinah) came to tawau and spoiled me. got me the full size, authentic pink yara perfume, paid for my first lash extensions, and treated me to amazing food for three weeks straight. love her sm. my cousin (on my dad’s side) got engaged! first one in the fam to get married, so we were all hyped. my other aunty took the whole fam out for iftar at borneo royale hotel. rm98 per person buffet?? best believe i ate my money’s worth.
also, i spontaneously cut my bangs too short… and i regret it ughhh but hey, they’ll grow out in like two weeks, so it’s fine.
and yeah, that’s about it. my life’s not as exciting as i make it sound. lowkey faking it till i make it. but one thing i’m sure of? i ate a lot these past few weeks. pretty sure i gained 10kg lol. no joke.
also, i told myself i’d read books during this semester break… haven’t even started one yet. and i’ve been playing the sims 4 less, only three times a week now. gotta pace myself before i get bored of it.
that’s all for now! i’ll try to post more often, but let’s be real, consistency isn’t my strong suit. maybe i’ll aim for once a month, just for memories. who knows, future me might actually thank present me for this.
xoxo, A.
